Bill raises personal property exemption

SALT LAKE CITY — The property tax exemption for people paying a personal property tax on a second home will rise from $3,500 to $10,000 under guidelines of a bill being sponsored by Rep. Gage Froerer, R-Huntsville.

HB 67 passed the House by 67-7 vote on Friday and will now go to the Senate for further consideration.

Besides raising the exemption on personal property, the measure repeals a consumer price index adjustment for purposes of the property tax and addresses property tax exemptions, abatement and deferral provisions relative to an individual’s primary residential exemption.
