SALT LAKE CITY-- Elder Steven E. Snow, church historian and recorder and executive director of the Church History Department, will present "Erastus Snow, Faithful Servant" as part of the Church History Library's Men and Women of Faith lecture series at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. The event is free and open to the public.
Erastus Snow, a leader and colonizer in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, helped establish settlements on the Virgin and Santa Clara Rivers, including St. George, Utah. He was responsible for opening the Church's Scandinavian mission in 1850 and for translating the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants into Danish.
Elder Snow, a direct descendant of Erastus Snow, is a native of St. George and earned his bachelor's degree in accounting at Utah State University and his law degree from Brigham Young University.
