OGDEN -- The six remaining Catholic Sisters of Mount Benedict Monastery were honored with a director's award at the Family Counseling Service annual fundraising dinner Wednesday night at the Timbermine restaurant.
The director's award is the only honor bestowed each year at the annual event.
"I'm grateful to recognize decades of service to Northern Utah," said Ron Thornburg, who is the executive director at Family Counseling Service.
He said the sisters have supported the agency for 15 years with the funds they have raised.
"Their greatest contribution has been their prayers," he said. "They are a force of nature when they put their minds to it."
As the sisters have announced they soon will be moving to Minnesota, Thornburg said while their physical presence will be absent from the community, their spiritual presence will be with Ogden for many years to come.
Sharm Christensen, who was the first recipient of the director's award for significant contributions to years ago and a longtime member of the Family Counseling Service board of directors, also was complimentary of the Sisters.
"Inside, they are a lot sweeter than me," he said. "They are just the dearest, sweetest people I've ever met."
