SALT LAKE CITY -- A Top of Utah lawmaker's bill to scrap a Department of Transportation practice of how it deals with discarded property is just one signature from being the law.
Rep. Stewart Barlow, R-Fruit Heights, has proposed the DOT be allowed to bid out disposal of real property when the agency is getting rid of property. HB 16 has passed both the House and Senate and has been forwarded to Gov. Gary Herbert's desk.
"The state doesn't have storage space or time," Barlow said. He said allowing property to be bid out for salvage will potentially generate some revenue.
