UDOT urged to look at warning lights

SALT LAKE CITY — State lawmakers want to send the Utah Department of Transportation a message to put more emphasis on safety at bad intersections.

Members of the House approved a resolution on Friday urging UDOT to install advance warning signs and lighting at intersections with a high number of accidents. HCR1 was sponsored by Rep. Jack Draxler, R-North Logan, who claims the message to the state agency is that the Legislature intends to focus on matters of public safety.

Rep. Kraig Powell, R-Heber City, said he hates resolutions but he spoke of the difference warning signals have made on a key intersection between Heber City and Midway. He said the new signal has saved lives.

The resolution, if adopted by the Senate, is non-binding.
