Lawrence C. “Larry” Satterthwaite of Farr West celebrated his 80th birthday at a dinner held in his honor at his home on Feb. 9.
He was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Bear Lake to Cecil H. and Ella Satterthwaite. His mother died when he was 4 years old, and his father moved to Harrisville when he was 12. He had the privilege of having two stepmothers, Jean Satterthwaite and Celia Satterthwaite, both of whom gave him three younger brothers and two younger sisters, in addition to his older brother.
On Nov. 10, 1955, he married Margaret Smith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. Their children and spouses are Sandra and Kevin Slone, and Scott and Jill Satterthwaite. A son, Guy Satterthwaite, is deceased.
They lived in Harrisville most of their married lives with a six-year stay in Garden City, after which they moved to Farr West.
He is a high priest in the Cottonwood Creek LSD Ward. He is grandpa to seven grandchildren and a great-grandpa to nine great-grandchildren.
He worked at Pillsbury Mills before serving for two years in the U.S. Navy. Upon his return, he worked for Marquardt before its closure. He then started L&L Construction with his brother Lynn Satterthwaite. He also worked for Big D Construction and retired in 1996.
He enjoys the outdoors and many of his days have been spent fishing, hunting, boating and riding snowmobiles and four wheelers. He now works on a long list of “honey dos.”
