BRIGHAM CITY — The Bees had a shot at punching their playoff ticket, but now will be forced to do it via a play-in game.
Box Elder built a nine-point lead after three quarters of action at home against Sky View on Tuesday evening, but the Bees couldn’t hold off the fast-finishing Sky View Bobcats, falling 65-63 in the Region 5 finale.
A win would have put the Bees into next week’s state 4-A playoffs. Now, Box Elder, Roy and Mountain Crest must play a three-way, two-half game on Thursday to determine the league’s final entry in the tournament.
Lindsey Warner paced Box Elder with 14 points, while Mitzi Munns added 12 points and seven rebounds. Megan Sutton also had a dozen points and Kaylee Rapp tallied nine as the Bees built a 54-49 lead going into the final quarter.
But Sky View went on a 10-0 run to start the final period and played hide-and-seek with the Bees to the final buzzer.
Tara Goldman led four Bobcats in double figures with 25 points. Kendra Falslev added 15 points.
