ROY -- A home in Roy was completely destroyed after a garage fire quickly spread through the entire house.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Roy City Fire Department responded to 4894 S. 3650 West to find a home that was almost completely engulfed in flames.
"The entire garage was fully involved in just a matter of minutes," said Roy Chief Jason Poulsen. "Then it quickly spread throughout the rest of the home."
Poulsen said the home is a total loss, with damages estimated to be about $200,000.
"When we got there, it was so bad we just had to take a defensive position and try to protect other homes and structures in the area," Poulsen said.
No one was hurt in the fire and no other property was damaged.
Poulsen said a woman who lives in the house had just returned to the home and parked her car in the garage. After a few minutes, she noticed a strong electrical smell coming from the garage. Upon entering the garage, the woman saw a fire rapidly gaining momentum underneath hear parked car.
The woman quickly left the home and called 911.
Poulsen said gasoline in the garage and the car helped fuel the fire. He also said a door from the garage to the house was left open, which is why the fire spread so quickly throughout the rest of the house.
The fire is still under investigation and the exact cause remains unknown.
