Caldwell joins Becker in push for clean air

SALT LAKE CITY — Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell joined Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker on Thursday in calling on the Legislature, local governments and residents to clean up the air.

At an afternoon news conference, Caldwell and Becker outlined six measures aimed at dealing with air-quality issues along the Wasatch Front.

Caldwell called clean air a red-and-blue issue everyone can agree on. He said no one wants to see red air days and everyone wants to see blue skies.

“Ogden is one of the best places in the United States to play outside, but if you can’t see those places, all of our efforts to attract people will be wasted,” Caldwell said.

The news conference came just minutes after Sen. Stuart Adams, R-Layton, told the media that he expects some GOP clean-air initiatives to be ready for consideration next week.
