Editor,
I am questioning the fairness of our court systems in Ogden concerning the young men driving the boat that hit the professor at Pineview Dam (Feb. 13 news article, “Boating trial: Day 2, Witness’s account of hearing screams passes test”). At first it was reported that she was swimming outside the safety area. All of sudden that was silenced.
Of course, the professor was prominent, but should these mens’ lives be ruined because of the bitterness in the courtroom by her friends? Their hatred was shown on TV. Let’s be fair, these young mens’ lives should not be ruined by going to prison to please the courtroom. The boys are not guilty of a prisonable offence. The professor was as much at fault as they in her swimming outside the area.
Also, there are many things about the Stewart case that should be made known to the public. Friends and neighbors know it.
Please, may politics not be a part of our court system. May honesty be what we expect and honor. I’m going to be very careful about who I vote to “retain.”
