Jay and Linda Hammer of Taylor celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. A family get-together is planned for a later date. A special dinner attended by all their siblings was hosted by Kelly and Mara Hammer, and the occasion was also celebrated in Las Vegas with their children and spouses.
They were married Feb. 1, 1963, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. They met while both were attending Stevens-Henager Business School in Ogden.
They have lived their married life in Taylor.
He grew up in Taylor. He worked for Mountain States Implement when first married and then worked for the Internal Revenue Service until his retirement in 1997. He enjoys playing golf, fishing, yard work (sometimes) and gardening.
She grew up in Paris, Idaho. She worked for the U.S. Forest Service before getting married. She was a stay-at-home mom until the children were older. She then worked for Leavitt’s Mortuary and Cemetery for a number of years as secretary/receptionist. She is an avid reader and also enjoys playing the piano and organ.
They have enjoyed trips to Hawaii and Branson, Mo.; a cruise to Alaska and other trips.
Their children and spouses are Paulette and Bart Vander Does, Amarillo, Texas; and Kelly and Mara Hammer, Layton. They enjoy their seven grandchildren and are expecting their first great-grandchild in April.
