Norma Rogers

Norma Hymas Rogers of Layton will celebrate her 80th birthday with family and friends this week.

She was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Liberty, Idaho, to Solomon Thomas and Genevieve Thornock Hymas. Her father died the year she was born. Her mother later married Otto Krussell, who raised the family along with his own. She is the seventh of eight children. She grew up in Montpelier, Idaho, with her parents, five brothers, two sisters and many stepbrothers and stepsisters.

She married Lavell Washington Rogers on Aug. 14, 1951. The family moved around for nine years with the U.S. Marine Corps and 11 years with the U.S. Air Force. They retired in 1968 and made their home in Layton. Her sweetheart died in July 1993.

She enjoys spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading, working in her yard and watching football.

Her children and their spouses are Guy and Easa Rogers, Jeanie and Steve Aylor, Ray Rogers (deceased), and Dawn and Dave Goatcher. Her grandchildren are Casey and Stacy Ripple, Janet and Dennis McNeeley, Jason and Sierra Rogers, Rhett and Lana Williams, Landon Aylor, Marisa Aylor, and Jennifer and Matt Marquez. She has eight great-grandchildren.
