SALT LAKE CITY — Cockfighting would be illegal in Utah under the provisions of a bill that has cleared a Senate subcommittee and now goes to the full Senate.
SB 52, sponsored by Sen. Gene Davis, D-Salt Lake, would make sponsoring a cockfight a felony and attending the activity a class B misdemeanor.
The bill goes beyond fighting fowl, including other animals that might be pitted against one another in a staged arena, and includes language on animal cruelty.
