This response is to the people who believe the 2nd Amendment is not relevant to our times of today, because our forefathers who framed the Constitution did not foresee the invention of the semi-automatic magazine fed firearms, and that we should replace those firearms with muzzle loaders (Feb. 17 letters, "Only military need high-firepower weapons, " and "Get a muzzle loader and start marching").
If we were to use that logic, then we should also get rid of the telephones, cell phones, computers, television and radio because our forefather's did not foresee the inventions of these either, when they wrote the 1st Amendment. Untold numbers of people have died because of the "hate groups" that have spread their choice of mind venom over the airwaves and the Internet; so we need to get rid of or change the 1st Amendment. We should go back to the form of communication of the printing press that Benjamin Franklin used.
And, as far as the militia topic is concerned; according to the U.S. Constitution "we the people" are the militia from the ages of 18 to 45 years, and as the militia, we have the duty to "be armed and ready" to defend our Constitution and our country.
