Social media bill clears the House

SALT LAKE CITY — A bill protecting a potential employee from having to share social media access codes with a potential employer has passed the House.

Sponsored by Rep. Stewart Barlow, R-Fruit Heights, HB 100 imposes limits on employers from accessing an employee’s personal account information, but it also contains guidelines limiting an employee’s sharing of private company information via the Internet.

Rep. Patrice Arent, D-Salt Lake City, praised the measure as providing protection to both employers and employees.
