Betty Howe

Betty Amsden Howe of Ogden celebrated her 80th birthday with a family dinner on Feb. 17.

She was born on Feb. 17, 1933, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, and immigrated to the United States in her 20s. She married Gregory Amsden and with him had four children: Annette and Jim Mease of Boise, Idaho; Joyce and Eric Wilkinson of St. George; Robert and Katie Amsden of South Ogden; and Keith and Leslie Amsden of Roy. She also has 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Despite a visual handicap, she returned to school when her youngest child started first grade and earned a master’s degree in special education. She taught special education at Canyon View Elementary School in Weber School District for 17 years.

In 2000, she married Robert Howe and welcomed his five children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren with open arms.
