Editor,

There have been several mass shootings in the last few years, all with the use of semi-automatic rifles with high-capacity magazines. There has been a cry from most of the citizens in the country. During the “Roaring Twenties,” when the Thompson machine gun was being used by the Mafia, the NRA stepped in and helped the U.S. government craft the bill banning the ownership of these weapons by the civilians of this country. At that time, there were no cries of 2nd Amendment infringement. Now, there is a push to ban the ownership of assault rifles and the large magazines from ownership by the civilian public. Why isn’t the NRA supporting this?

There has been no move to do anything about undermining the 2nd Amendment, even though the doomsayers would have everyone think so. President Obama knows about the U.S. Constitution and would not try to go against it. He was sworn to support and defend it. The ban on the military-style rifles or the large magazines will not take away anyone’s 2nd Amendment rights.

The NRA did say that they would support a law that makes a background check universal for all firearm sales, no matter where it happens. Why would they oppose the ban on the military-style assault weapons? Do not listen to any of the doomsayers, the president does not intend to infringe on anyone’s 2nd Amendment rights to keep and bear arms.
