I read with interest Andy Howell's "Behind the headlines" column in the Feb. 23 edition regarding the retirement of two Standard-Examiner giants, Dave Greiling and Charles Trentelman ("Two 'institutions' soon to bid farewell to journalism careers").
In our house over many years, a common phrase has been, "What did Trentelman have to say in his column today" or "Did you read Trentelman's column today?" His "Wasatch Rambler" articles are required reading. They always contain wit, wisdom and a whole lot of common sense. His talent isn't just limited to his own column, as he often authors or co-authors the lead story of the day.
As for Dave Greiling's column, I always look forward to reading about the mechanics of putting out a daily newspaper and other interesting observations he makes. As these two gentlemen prepare to retire from the Standard-Examiner, I wish them well.
Charlie, hopefully you will still write a column every month or so. You're just too good to retire completely.
