LAS VEGAS -- After two weekends of near misses, the Weber State softball team heads to the Eller Media Stadium Classic this weekend aiming for that breakthrough first win of the season.
The Wildcats will face six games in three days, taking on DePaul and tournament host UNLV on Friday, New Mexico State and Cal State Northridge on Saturday, and then facing both the Aggies and Matadors again on Sunday at the Rebels' Eller Media Stadium.
First pitch against DePaul is set for 12:15 p.m., with the Wildcats set to face the Rebels at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
On Saturday, WSU will face CSN at 10 a.m. and NMSU at 12:30, with Sunday's games set for 12:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
The Wildcats are coming off a tough 0-4 showing at the Amy S. Harrison Classic in Riverside, Calif., a tournament that saw a pair of heart-breaking losses to host UC Riverside as Weber State left 18 runners stranded on base in a pair of losses (4-3 and 7-5).
Freshman third baseman Alyson Kulp continues to lead the Wildcats in hitting, batting .344 (11-for-32), with four runs scored and three RBIs. Kulp is also 3-for-3 in stolen bases this year.
Senior outfielder London Clarke is 6-for-24 with a double and three runs scored, while freshman Janel Cunningham is 6-for-24 with a team-best five RBIs and two runs scored.
Sophomore Stephanie Mathias is coming off a .444 hitting weekend at the Harrison Classic, where she went 4-of-9.
This weekend's tournament is the third of four preseason tournaments for the Wildcats, who will head to Long Beach, Calif., for the Long Beach State Invitational next weekend to wrap up tournament play.
