Cedar City police chase after shots fired ends in crash

CEDAR CITY -- Authorities say a 19-year-old suspect was taken to the hospital after apparently shooting at a moving vehicle in Cedar City and leading officers on a high-speed chase.

Officials say the pursuit started after they got reports of gunshots in downtown Cedar City about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and a vehicle was seen speeding away.

A Utah Highway Patrol helicopter was called to assist. The chase ended when the teen hit a parked car.

Police say the suspect was expressing suicidal thoughts, and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries he received in the crash.

Authorities say he'll be identified after he's treated and booked in jail.

Nobody was injured in the vehicle that the suspect shot at.
