I am responding to the misinformation contained in a Feb. 28 letter, "Liberals never say 1st Amendment is outdated," The writer alleges that liberals claim the 2nd Amendment to be obsolete. No one has, in fact, said the 2nd Amendment is obsolete. We perhaps erred in not limiting ourselves to one-syllable words and were as a result misunderstood.
The fact is that when the 2nd Amendment was passed, no one had invented the sort of "arm" that would allow them to spray out 45 rounds in 60 seconds. No one had conceived of the need to kill 26 people in mere minutes. And, the hunters among them were competent enough to not need that many tries to kill a deer.
Whatever paranoia fuels the need to have that kind of killing power, don't ascribe it to our founding fathers. They, like we liberals, would be appalled.
