Layton Christian will play for sixth place

RICHFIELD — Layton Christian Academy made it to the final day of action in the state 1-A boys basketball tournament.

They just won’t be playing in the game they wanted.

Defending 1-A champion LCA edged Piute 72-61 on Friday in consolation bracket action at the Sevier Valley Center. Duce Namazi scored 31 points and added nine rebounds and five steals. Ricardo Gomez added 11 points and six assists, while Joe Reddish added eight points and eight boards.

The Thunderbirds were led by J.J. Ramos with 21 points.

The Eagles will now play Region 17 rival Legacy Prep for sixth place today at noon.

• LEGACY PREP 50, WAYNE 41: At Richfield, Legacy won its second tournament game thanks to 19 points from Klint Gardiner.

The Badgers were led by Ty Rees with 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

• BRYCE VALLEY 71, RICH 60: At Richfield, the Rich Rebels dropped a tough semifinal game and will settle for the consolation championship.

Rich fell behind early and never could make up the difference.

Bryce Valley will play Duchesne for the title.
