Explosion damages buildings in Vernal industrial park

VERNAL -- An explosion in an eastern Utah industrial park early Saturday prompted an evacuation of surrounding homes and caused moderate damage to three homes, but no injuries were reported.

The blast that occurred shortly after midnight destroyed one building and severely damaged eight others in the Ashley Valley Industrial Park near Vernal.

It also prompted an evacuation of some 30 nearby homes within a half-mile radius of the industrial park, and a flood of calls to dispatchers from residents who felt it around Uintah County.

Firefighters extinguished a fire that followed the explosion, which is under investigation.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports the industrial park is run by Vernal-based Adler Hot Oil Service, which sells trucks for cleaning oil and gas processing equipment, and pumping fluids down well bores.
