Communist dictator Vladimir Lenin stated: "The scientific concept of dictatorship means nothing else but this: power without limit, resting directly upon force, restrained by no laws, absolutely unrestricted by rules." The tyrannical dictatorship Lenin described is what our country would be like without the restrictions and boundaries the Constitution placed against our government.
The necessity of government officials being bound by the "rule of law" is a much unappreciated concept for the average American, but our politicians are either strictly bound by law, or above the law. If they can arbitrarily pick and choose what provisions of the Constitution they will or won't obey, it is meaningless.
Today it is hanging by a thread because the American people have allowed the federal government to incrementally chip away at our constitutional freedom formula and protection of civil rights since before the Civil War.
Most Americans, oblivious to the big picture, are undisturbed if unconstitutional laws provide some immediate convenient benefits, especially if adopted in the name of "national interests" or "national security." An unrestrained federal government is a much greater threat to our national interests or security than any foreign enemy, all of which American taxpayers have rescued and built up with unconstitutional bailouts, foreign aid, and military equipment. America doesn't have an enemy our war-profiteering military industrial complex and warmongering politicians didn't create.
President Theodore Roosevelt incorrectly believed he had authority to do anything he wanted if the Constitution did not specifically forbid it. If the Constitution is silent on any matter, that is an automatic federal restriction (Ninth Amendment).
Roosevelt issued over 1,000 executive orders; many thousands have been issued since. The Constitution states: "All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress." Therefore, all laws by executive order, legislation from the bench by the Supreme Court, and "administrative laws" decreed by the numerous un-elected and unaccountable alphabet agencies: EPA, DEA, NEA, TSA, etc., are unconstitutional.
Congress provides about a third of all federal legislation, and the executive and judicial branches provide the rest, in blatant disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law.
