PLAIN CITY -- With a rim of snow around Fremont High's soccer field, one might have expected a frosty performance.
But the host Silver Wolves scorched the nets for four goals in a 4-0 win over Ben Lomond on Tuesday in the prep soccer opener for both schools.
"We had some parents and other individuals who helped plow the field and it's been nice," Fremont coach Fred Smith. "We feel like we've been ahead of other teams."
Levi Tams scored and had a pair of assists as the Wolves scored four in the first half.
"We played really well, and created a lot of opportunities," Smith said. "Ben Lomond is a good team, and we saw that in the second half."
Robbie Hales, McKade Peterson and Bradon Christensen each added scores, while Jordan Preator and Braden Searle added assists.
"We were really young last year and struggled," Smith. "We knew we would have some growing pains. Hopefully, the fruits (of last season) will start bearing fruit."
Cayden Quayle posted the shutout, and Smith credited Justin Arrington and Casey Taylor with setting a good tone for the defense.
* CLEARFIELD 4, MORGAN 0: At Clearfield, the Falcons jumped ahead early and then held the Trojans out of the net for the opening shutout.
Ivan Pechetto, Gavin Monson, Caleb Reynolds and Stockton Larsen scored goals for host Clearfield.
Brandon Ward picked up the shutout in goal.
* GRANGER 2, SYRACUSE 1: At West Valley City, the Titans lost their season opener on the road.
Aaron Ortiz scored in the first half, and Aureliano Rubio scored after the break. Syracuse's Levi Brandley scored in the second half to give the Titans some hope.
* SKY VIEW 7, BEAR RIVER 1: At Smithfield, the Bobcats scored seven goals and rolled to an impressive offensive victory to open the season.
Tyler Hoyt and Jaden Wood scored two goals apiece, while Kolin Knowles, Chase Mortensen and Tanner Holts added solo scores.
Tanner Porter scored for Bear River to prevent the shutout.
Several other soccer games were rescheduled for later in the week.
* FREMONT 7, MORGAN 2: At Plain City, the Trojans got a pair of early run, the but the Silver Wolves broke things open in the fourth inning.
Tom Wilson's two-run triple was the big blow for Fremont. Todd Bell added a double for the Silver Wolves, with Trevor Bennett picking up the win on the mound.
Brenyn McConnell and Lawson Toomer each had doubles for the Trojans. Tanner Halls took the loss on the mound.
