Fake cop involved in Sandy home invasion burglary

SANDY — Sandy police are searching for as many as three suspects who staged a home invasion burglary after one of them gained entry by posing as a police officer.

Police say a young man was at home alone when he heard a knock on the door around 7 a.m. Friday.

The victim told police a man at the door had a badge and said he was an officer working on an investigation.

After the victim let him in, he was overpowered and restrained by the initial suspect and by one or two other men who joined him.

Investigators say the suspects stole some items while they were in the home about 15 minutes.

Police are trying to determine if the suspects were involved in a similar incident in Sandy in October.
