Betty Rae Wilson Kap of Ogden celebrated her 80th birthday with a family dinner held in her honor on Feb. 24. She says that her greatest joy is spending time with her family, and they all agree that she is the “greatest mom and grandma ever.” She was also able to fly to Arizona last week with Allegiant Air and watch a spring training Rockie baseball game.
The third of four children, she was born in Ogden on Feb. 24, 1933, to Raymond and Lena Wilson. She graduated from Ogden High School and has lived in Ogden her entire life. She married her sweetheart, Don Edward Kap, on April 11, 1952, in her family’s home on Patterson Street. Their children and spouses are Dean Kap and Nancy Glaviano, David and Pam Kap, and Karen and Randy King. She has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also has a brother and sister: Ken Wilson and Fae Corey.
She was a stay-at-home mom while her three children were young. Later she worked at L.R. Samuels, ZCMI and the Elite Mart. She retired after 17 years working as a clerk in the circuit courts, where she says that she has fond memories and made many lifetime friends.
She enjoys gardening and can usually be found puttering around in her yard. She also enjoys being involved in her grandchildren’s activities and camping. She has been in a pinochle club for almost 60 years.
