KEARNS -- A 15-year-old boy is critically injured after being hit by a car while walking to school in Kearns.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal says the crash happened about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, while it was still dark outside.
Hoyal says the boy was one of four students trying to cross several lanes at 5000 West and 5400 South. Police say one vehicle stopped suddenly to avoid hitting the students, but a second car that swerved to avoid the first car hit the teen.
The boy was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in extremely critical condition.
Hoyal says nobody else was injured in the crash, which happened about half a mile from Kearns High School.
