LAYTON - In a surprise about face, Mayor Steve Curtis has announced he will not seek a third term of office.
"It is time for someone else to step in and continue building the legacy that is Layton City," Curtis said in a letter released Tuesday afternoon.
Curtis expressed appreciation for the support he has received in his eight years as mayor and 18 years in city leadership. He noted strides forward the city has made.
His announcement comes just days after a west side resident challenged Curtis and other city council members for the role they played in trying to move the West Layton Village concept forward - an issue that ignited land referendums that were overturned in November.
