OGDEN -- After spending the first five weekends of the season away from home, the Weber State University softball team is set to make its 2013 home debut.
The Wildcats will take on in-state rival Utah State on this afternoon at 1 p.m. at Wildcat Softball Field.
A second game is set to follow at 3 p.m., or 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Weber State enters today's games after going 1-4 during the Long Beach State Invitational over the weekend. The Wildcats defeated UNLV 7-3 on Saturday, while falling to Cal State Fullerton, North Dakota State and UC Santa Barbara, twice during the tourney.
Utah State comes to Ogden with an 0-20 mark for the season and will be looking for their first win of the year.
The Aggies defeated the coach Tina Johnson's Wildcats twice last season, taking 7-4 and 10-3 wins during an April 11, 2012, doubleheader in Logan.
Since the Wildcats resumed playing softball in 2010, Utah State leads the six-game series 4-2. Weber State is 2-0 in Ogden against the Aggies during that stretch, sweeping a two-game doubleheader during the 2011 season.
Today's game kicks off a 12-game homestand for the Wildcats that will include their first two Big Sky Conference series, as well as three non-conference doubleheaders.
Junior utility player Desiree Mejia leads Weber State with a .278 batting average, with 10 hits and six RBIs. Mejia was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs during the Wildcats win over UNLV on Saturday.
Freshman infielder Krystin Kubo is batting .241 with a team-high 13 hits, while freshman infielder Alyson Kulp and sophomore catcher Janel Cunningham each have 11 hits for the Wildcats.
Junior right-hander Kylee Colvin, who has both of WSU's wins this year, is 2-2 on the mound with a 3.14 ERA having pitched four complete games. Sophomore right-hander Morgan Allaband has a 4.62 ERA and has pitched a team-high 69.2 innings.
After today's doubleheader, the Wildcats will have nine days to prepare for their first-ever Big Sky Conference softball game against North Dakota on March 22.
The Aggies have been led offensively by juniors Rachael Hunsaker and Kassandra Uchida at the top of the lineup.
