Governor to consider bill reducing classroom size

SALT LAKE CITY — A local lawmaker’s bill to require school districts to submit a plan on how they are using class-size-reduction funds has been finalized and is headed to the governor for final consideration.

The House voted Wednesday and agreed with final revisions to HB 318, a bill dealing with classroom sizes. Sponsored by Rep. Becky Edwards, R-North Salt Lake, the original bill imposed caps on classroom sizes at the K-3 level but was amended before it passed through the legislative process.

The state currently provides $108 million to help districts reduce classroom sizes.
