SALT LAKE CITY -- State representatives have voted to delay the trigger date for a guest worker program in the state for at least two years.

On Thursday, the House voted 51-21 to approve SB 225, which delays implementation of immigration compromises reached in the 2011 legislative session. The bill moves the starting date for the guest worker program from July 1, 2013, to July 1, 2015.

The delayed trigger is intended to give Congress time to address immigration issues at the federal level.
