SALT LAKE CITY – A local lawmaker’s bid to give people a safe harbor to store firearms has passed the Senate and will be forwarded to the governor for further consideration.

The Senate voted 21-4 to approve HB 121, sponsored by Rep. Dixon Pitcher, R-Ogden, which would give parents or adult family members the option of removing a firearm from the home to a local law enforcement agency in vulnerable situations.

Sen. Karen Mayne, D-West Valley City, thinks the idea can take the edge off some touchy family situations.
