ST. GEORGE -- The Bees are learning fast.
A day after falling behind in a pair of games at the Sunshine Classic in St. George, the Box Elder baseball team jumped ahead of their opponents in a pair of wins on Saturday to finish third in the weekend tournament.
Box Elder defeated Springville 4-3 behind the pitching of Tyler Bate, then topped Mountain View 7-6 in the late game.
On Friday, Box Elder trailed Dixie but came back only to lose 11-10 in eight innings. Later, the Bees had to come from behind to nip East 13-12.
Against Springville, Tyler Thornton doubled and Jayk Brooks and Justin Adams each cracked a pair of singles.
In the win over Mountain View, Jacoby Price picked up the win on the mound. Connor Udy and Darius McFarland had two hits apiece. Adams cracked a ground-rule double as well.
* BEAR RIVER 8, WEBER 7: At Garland, the Bears scored two in the sixth and three in the seventh to snag the win.
Later, Weber scored two in its final at-bat to top Hillcrest 6-5 in a game played at Bear River. Jake Arrington earned the win.
Bear River fell to Hillcrest 7-5 in its second game of the day.
* MORGAN 13, HURRICANE 2: At St. George, after starting the season with four losses in a row, the Morgan Trojans won a pair of games and their third in a row. Kade Carrigan had a triple to lead the Morgan attack. Tyler Stout picked up the win on the mound.
Earlier, Morgan topped Pine View 7-2. Cameron Jarrett tripled and Carrigan had another double. Lantzen Toomer earned the win on the mound.
In other games, Payson bombed Ogden 16-2, Alta scored a pair of late runs to top Syracuse 5-4, Cottonwood whipped Syracuse 13-1, Union toppled Northridge 11-0, Riverton won a pair from Viewmont 3-2 and 5-1, Woods Cross topped Hunter 13-10, thn beat Granger 4-2.
In non-league softball, Bear River fell to Spanish fork 4-3 in a battle of perennial powers /
