This is in regards to the controversy over the BearCat vehicle that Davis County has acquired (March 7, "Mean Machine"). I applaud the county for thinking ahead of the criminal element out there. If people think a vehicle like this is not necessary, I suggest they research the bank robbery that happened in Los Angeles on Feb.28, 1997. Eleven police officers were injured, and seven civilians. The police were outgunned by two men who had already committed three other bank robberies and two armored car heists.
I was watching the whole thing play out on television at the time. I lived a few miles away from where it happened. If the police had a BearCat, I believe the outcome would have been completely different.
In these times, if we don't take the time to out-think the criminal element out there, we will become victim. Criminals spend 24/7 trying to get in our pockets. It just makes common sense to stay alert and prepared.
