LDS Church dedicates new temple in Honduras

SALT LAKE CITY  -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has dedicated its sixth temple in Central America with a new building in Honduras.

The ceremony celebrating the Tegucigalpa Honduras Temple on Sunday featured choirs from throughout the temple area, which includes Honduras and Nicaragua. It came after a three-week open house that church officials say drew more than 200,000 visitors.

The temple is nearly 30,000 square feet, with gray granite from China on its exterior. It's topped by a statue of the angel Moroni.

Church officials say the temple will serve about 230,000 church members in Honduras and Nicaragua. It joins other Central American temples in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama and El Salvador.
