Rodger and Rosemary Smith of Roy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this week at a gathering with their family.
High school sweethearts, they were married March 14, 1963. In 1978, their vows were solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint Ogden LDS Temple.
Raised in West Weber, at a young age he started working on farms and with livestock. He learned the value of hard work and his children enjoyed hearing his stories. Most of his career was with animals, and he took every opportunity to advance his career through schooling. After many years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, he retired as a compliance officer.
She was raised in Ogden, and has strong roots in Grafton. She too learned the value of hard work, while learning how to grow a garden and “stretch a penny.” She says that she has a great deal of love for her family. She has enjoyed every opportunity spending time with them, and has been a great support to her children and grandchildren.
Theirfour children and spouses are Brenda Smith, Jeffery Smith, Kevin Smith, and Kristin and Christopher Pingree. They have 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
