SALT LAKE CITY -- A man was fatally shot by officers who had surrounded a Salt Lake City home in an attempt to arrest a fugitive.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the man was standing outside the house when he opened fire on officers from an interagency force who were seeking a fugitive inside the home Tuesday. The man was not the fugitive being sought.
Police Sgt. Shawn Josephson says the shooting prompted officers to return fire and strike the man. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The fugitive inside the home later surrendered to police. He was wanted on a parole violation.
It was not immediately known whether the dead man was connected to the fugitive.
The officers seeking the fugitive were part of a force operated by the U.S. Marshals.
