CLEARFIELD -- The Davis County Health Department is offering poison-prevention presentations for area schools and communities.

Poison control centers across the country receive more than 10,000 calls per day, while the Utah Poison Control Center in 2012 received 46,733 calls.

Of that total, 4,707 calls were made from Davis County, with just over 60 percent of the cases involving children 6 years or younger, said Davis County Health Director Lewis R. Garrett.

"The three major substances affecting children were cosmetics and personal care products, household cleaning substances and painkillers -- items that easily can be accessible to curious youngsters," Garrett said.

Those interested in scheduling a poison-prevention presentation can call 801-525-5070.
