Brigham City man arrested after Box Elder police chase

WILLARD — A 41-year-old Brigham City man is facing felony charges after leading officers in a high-speed chase.

James Tabarez was booked in the Box Elder County Jail on felony evading charges, driving under the influence of alcohol and several other traffic citations, said Willard Police Chief Nate Thompson.

The chase started at 9 a.m. Wednesday on Main Street when a police officer saw a Toyota Camry going north and weaving into the southbound lanes, Thompson said. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but Tabarez kept going until he turned into a hotel parking lot in Perry and was arrested.

“He initially resisted arrest,” Thompson said.

Tabarez also refused to blow into a breathalyzer and officers got a search warrant to draw his blood. The results of the blood draw are pending.
