CEDAR CITY -- A project to build a new $30 million arts center that will house the Utah Shakespeare Festival is getting a $6 million boost.
Officials at Southern Utah University announced Thursday that they'd received a $6 million gift from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation. The proposed complex in Cedar City will be named the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts.
The center will include the Southern Utah Museum of Art, a Shakespeare theater, sculpture gardens and arts education programs.
University president Michael T. Benson says a "soft groundbreaking" is set for later this year, with serious work planned for next spring, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Other major donors to the project include the Ralph and Betty Engelstad Family Foundation based in Las Vegas, which gave $5 million.STORY:201303220038Proposed Cedar arts center gets $6M boost/frontpage/2013/03/22/Proposed-Cedar-arts-center-gets-6M-boost.html-1
