FRUIT HEIGHTS -- The city youth council recently received a third-place award of excellence from the state's Association of Youth Councils for their work during the year 2012.
The group of 12 members competed in the small city youth council category and received the award during the association's annual leadership training held in mid March at Utah State University.
Nicole Williams, the group's adviser, believes they won the award because of the countless hours they spent helping the community clean up after several severe windstorms in the city last year.
Other criteria for the award included how often the council served the community and what innovative ideas they had for their city during their term. Last year, the youth council helped with Founder's Day, cleaned up areas of the community, and played vital roles in the city's Easter, July, and New Year's festivities, among other activities.
