SALT LAKE CITY -- The Federal Aviation Administration announced Wednesday that funding to pay air controllers at the Ogden and Provo towers will run out on May 5.
The FAA previously announced on March 29 that they were closing 149 small airports around the country including Ogden and Provo. The exact dates of the closures were not released until Wednesday.
The airports will remain open, but pilots will be left to coordinate takeoffs and landings among themselves over a shared radio frequency with no help from ground controllers.
Airport managers in the two cities have voiced concerns about serious air safety issues.
In Provo, officials are exploring other funding sources to keep the tower open.
