BRIGHAM CITY -- A 59-year-old woman was killed, and three of her grandchildren were taken to the hospital, after being hit by a car forced onto the sidewalk during a crash.

Brigham City Police Lt. Dennis Vincent said an 87-year-old woman was driving north on Main Street and tried to turn left onto 700 South around 2:45 p.m. when she collided with a car going south on Main Street.

The impact of the crash forced the woman's car onto the sidewalk, where it hit the grandmother and her grandchildren, aged 7, 4 and 2.

The grandmother died, and the grandchildren were in stable condition after being transported to Brigham City Hospital, Vincent said.

Names were withheld until family members were notified.

The 87-year-old woman also went to the hospital with minor injuries, Vincent said.

The investigation of the accident is ongoing.
