OGDEN -- Weber State University's Stewart Library Special Collections department has announced a yearlong project to document the history of Ogden's 25th Street, and will host a kickoff event Saturday at the Ben Lomond Hotel, 2510 Washington Blvd.
Community members are invited to come to the Ben Lomond between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and bring photographs of Ogden.
The Special Collections staff will scan the photos and will provide photo owners with preservation tips.
"We're looking specifically for images of 25th street events and businesses, but really we'd be happy with any images of Ogden," said Sarah Langsdon, special collections associate curator. "We want to capture the thriving atmosphere of downtown, from parades to school dances, to popular hang-outs."
Langsdon said the idea for the 25th Street project grew in part because of a lack in their collections.
Most of their photographs of the downtown area are pre-World War II, with some into the early 1950s. But the downtown area, especially 25th Street, has changed significantly since then.
