Shame on Senator's Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee for voting against the straw purchase bill that would increase the punishment from a slap on the wrist to a felony. Individuals who buy guns for felons who use these guns to kill, should be treated no differently than the person in a getaway car waiting for the bank robber. The incident in Colorado is a perfect example, with two dead and one wounded. The shooter was a felon who could not pass a background check, so he got someone else to purchase it for him. Utah proudly boasts their connection with little Emilee Parker, but continues to ignore common-sense gun laws. The New town killer had access to 10-round clips and 30-round clips. He chose the 30-round clips because he could kill more people quickly.
Condolences and tears are not enough, if Utah really cares about Emilee and their own children's safety, then we need sensible laws. Are we going to let Lapierre and the gun manufactures dictate about our children's safety?
Ninety-one percent of Americans, including responsible NRA members, support background checks and there is a wide support of limiting magazines. Senator Lee now is threatening to filibuster any gun law proposals. This is a coward's way out of managing our problems; Americans deserve a vote. These measures are sensible and the conspiracy that guns are going to be taken away is false. It's time to call your senators.
