PARK CITY -- Authorities say a 33-year-old skier has died after hitting a tree at Deer Valley Resort in Park City.
Resort communications director Emily Summers says the skier has been identified as James Kimball, a former seasonal employee at Deer Valley.
Summers says Kimball was not wearing a helmet. She says witnesses reported seeing Kimball skiing at a fast rate about noon Thursday. He went off Little Bell run where it intersects Solid Muldoon.
She says ski patrol was on the scene immediately and determined Kimball died of severe head trauma after hitting the tree.
The two runs and Silver Lake Express lift were closed for two hours.
Summers said Kimball worked at Deer Valley from 1994-2001 as a lift operator, in food and beverage operations and most recently in vacation planning.
