SALT LAKE CITY -- John Hester scored the tie-breaking run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch, as the Salt Lake Bees edged the Tucson Padres 2-1 on Friday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
With one out in the eighth, Hester singled to center and advanced to third on a single to left by Tommy Field. Tucson lefty Tommy Layne was brought in to face left-handed hitter Matt Young and bounced his first pitch back to the screen to bring Hester home with the go-ahead run.
Robert Coello (1-0) escaped trouble to work a scoreless eighth inning to earn the victory. Ryan Brasier recorded the save.
