Q: My wife and I watch “Kitchen Nightmares” with Gordon Ramsay all the time. Do those restaurant owners who need help from Gordon pay any fee for him to come to their restaurant? Does he pay for the renovation, or do the restaurant owners?
A: The restaurant owner pays nothing and Ramsay doesn’t pay for it out of his own pocket, either. The production company that makes the show pays for the renovations. Per co-executive producer Lindsay Kugler: “ ‘Kitchen Nightmares’ ’ mission is to help participating restaurants get back on their feet. All of Gordon Ramsay’s advice to restaurant owners is provided free of charge and the restaurant renovations are paid for by the series.”
Q: Who pays for the judgment that “Judge Judy” awards when one wins the lawsuit on her program?
A: Not anyone appearing on the show. It’s the production company that makes “Judge Judy” that pays all money awarded. That’s one reason people go on the show: Even if they lose, they aren’t out any money.
Q: Are there going to be brand-new Mike Holmes shows — either “Holmes on Homes” or “Holmes’ Inspection” — on either HGTV or DIY?
A: According to a publicist for the networks, Mike Holmes will have a new series —“Holmes Makes It Right” — which is slated to premiere on DIY Network in August.
Q: A recent episode of “Project Runway” appeared to be shot through a one-way mirror. (Many shots appeared to have a ghost reflection of lamps and other objects in the foreground.) Do the producers actually use one-way mirrors to film “Project Runway”?
A: Nope — you’re just seeing reflections on glass. Some workshop scenes are filmed through a glass wall.
