LeRoy and Joline Swenson Bouwhuis of South Ogden celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 13. Their children will host an open house in their honor from 3 to 5 p.m. on April 13 at the South Ogden 4th Ward (old 39th Ward) 4075 Orchard Ave.
High school sweethearts, he graduated from Weber High School and she from Ogden High School.
They were married on March 13, 1953, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple.
He left for the U.S. Army in September 1953 and served at Fort Benning, Ga., where she joined him. After returning from the service, he finished his schooling at Utah State University to become a school teacher in the Weber County District. He taught mostly at T.H. Bell Junior High School for 40 years.
After graduation, she was hired as a secretary at Utah Tailoring Mills, retiring after 46 years as vice president.
Both are active in the LDS Church and have served in many capacities. He served as stake clerk, high council and bishop. She served as stake Young Women’s secretary, secretary to Patriarch Kefford Peek and Relief Society.
Their children are Larry and Michelle Hansen, Roy; Brian and Robin Bouwhuis, California; Steve and Lisa Hancock, Riverdale; and Michael and Lori Ratcliffe, Roy. They have 17 grandchildren (two deceased), and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
